Project Description:
Harris Elementary School is a three-acre site located within a quiet residential area of Springfield, Massachusetts. The design carefully improved parking to 42 spaces and revised both vehicular and pedestrian circulation to accommodate the needs of the school staff and service vehicles while preserving the character of the neighborhood. The design includes a memorial garden that serves as a place of repose for school faculty and staff and stands as a tribute to the little girl for whom the garden is dedicated. The garden provides a joyful interplay between sweeps of pink and purple perennials and the playfulness of twelve boulders that flow through the garden and into the walkway to provide alternative seating to the benches.
