AMHERST COLLEGE
Webster Quadrangle
Amherst, Massachusetts

Project Data-
Date: 1998
Size: 2+/- acres
Context: Private Liberal Arts College, Central Massachusetts
Construction Date: 1998

Project Description:
The design for this central campus open space organizes a circular driveway amidst a cluster of buildings that accommodates a diversity of needs for the College including Frost Library, the Music Building, and two dormitories.  The point of egress was realigned to provide parking adjacent to the Music Building, which gives way to the circular drive.  Parking and walkways about the circle are more efficient, better delineated and provide universal access into all buildings.  Walkways and site lighting were rearranged to accommodate pedestrian traffic.  New plantings define the articulated spaces and provide seasonal color.

EDC Principal Thomas Elmore was Project Manager and coordinated the construction documentation and implementation phases of the project while with another firm.
